The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking is responsible for local bus transport service in Chandigarh and the satellite towns of Mohali and Panchkula. Local bus terminals exist in Sector 17 and 43. The bus service is very frequent and efficient. There is a “Hop On Hop Off” Double Decker bus that takes a tour through all the main spots in the city like the Secretariat, Punjab University and Sukhna Lake. This bus starts from Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17.
There are private taxi operators at taxi stands in the commercial market of each sector. Chandigarh administration provides air conditioned cab service. The cabs can pick up a person at the door step. These cabs wait at crucial places like the airport and railway station.
Auto rickshaws can be seen at bus terminals, auto stands and railway stations in each sector. However, they are not very popular. Cycle rickshaws are meant for short distances and sitting for long in one can become uncomfortable at times.
