Getting Around by Train in Delhi

 
Delhi has one of the top railway infrastructures in India . It has four main railway stations in Delhi : They are New Delhi , Nizamuddin , Old Delhi , and Delhi Cantt.. Most of the trains leave from New Delhi Railway Station at Paharganj near Connaught Place. The other railway station is the Nizamuddin station, which is closer to South Delhi and many west and south bound trains operate from this station. . From the Old Delhi railway station many trains ply which connect to different parts of North and West India. New Delhi Railway Station has a foreign tourist booking office from where the tourists can get railway tickets in US dollars or Pounds Sterling.

The Royal Orient Train that starts from Delhi is a luxury train, which explores the fascinating states of Rajasthan and Gujarat in India. The train also gives the tourists the option of making a short sightseeing tour of Delhi including the major attractions such as the Qutub Minar - the tallest minaret, Humayun’s Tomb - mausoleum built in Humayun’s memory by his wife, Red Fort or the Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat - the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, India Gate - a war memorial etc.

The commencement of the Delhi Metro Rail has provided a solution to the growing traffic within the city of Delhi. Getting around Delhi in train is relatively easier as well as faster now due to the Metro Railway. This train operates along three lines. The first line operates between Shahdara and Rithala and includes 18 stations, covering a distance of 22 km. The second line operates between Vishwa Vidyalaya and Central Secretariat and covers a distance of 11 km with 10 stations on the route. The third line operates between Indraprastha to Dwarka and covers 28 stations including a distance of 30 km.
