The visa application has to be accompanied by a passport of minimum six month validity from the departure date from India. Foreign nationals holding nationalities other than the country from where they are applying for the visa should submit proof of long term permanent residence in the country. The citizens of other countries have to make a reference to their country of residence. The Indian mission issues the following visas like the Tourism Visa Business Visa, Student Visa, Transit Visa, Missionary Visa, Journalist Visa, Conference Visa and Employment Visa.
Foreign tourists who come in groups through reputed travel agencies for sightseeing or short visits do not require individual visas, provided they are not dropping out of the group at any time. A collective landing permit is granted to the travel agents by the Immigration officers, who provide them with details of the group members including their personal and passport details.
If the visa is to be extended for more than 180 days, a registration certificate and residential permit has to be obtained from the nearest registration office within 15 days.
