The Goan cuisine has the influence of the Portuguese who lived here in the past, but the common varieties found here include the delicious varieties of seafood, curries, rice and feni which is a wine made from cashew nuts. Seafood lovers are bound to be delighted with the wide variety of dishes made from oysters, mussels, crabs, pomfret, prawns, lobsters, lady fish, mackerel and sardines .. Goan food uses liberal amount of spices in their cooking which are mostly ground finely to deliver the exotic flavor to their dishes.

Goan cuisine is able to satisfy even the most fastidious eaters. The balchao, vindaloo and sorpotel or xacuti varieties of chicken , mutton or beef are sure to be enjoyed by the non-vegetarians. The dishes with Portugal influences include racheiado, caldeirada and cabidela. Vegetarian food like mergolho which is made from pumpkin and papaya and the various vegetable stews are also equally enjoyed here. Bebinca is a popular sweet dish which is made from layers of coconut pancakes.

Feni is of two types: One made from cashew nuts and other from coconut .. Both these drinks can be consumed fresh after preparation. There are several beach shacks and restaurants which serve you food near the beach and help you relax and dine in the perfect ambience.

The food served here is mostly fried, grilled or cooked in garlic sauce. The flavor of the spices and natural local ingredients used to make the dishes mouthwatering .
