Home - Fact Sheet - Goa Travel Details - Getting Around by Train in Goa
Getting Around by Train in Goa

Goa is well connected by rail through the Konkan railways. Daily trains run from Goa to Delhi, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. Goa is also linked to the other major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore via train. The Konkan railways also connect Goa to Rajkot, Mangalore, Ahmedabad and Ernakulam. Booking of train tickets has become a simple task due to the internet booking system and you do not have to waste time standing in long queues anymore.

The formation of the Konkan railways which begins from Mumbai and ends at Trivandrum in Kerala is a boon to Goa. It lies in between these two destinations and the main railway stations in Goa are located in Margao and Vasco Da Gama. The Margao railway station is the largest and the other smaller ones include Thivim, Pernem, Karmali and Canacona.

Most of the travelers prefer to take the overnight Konkan Kanya Express which leaves Mumbai at eleven at night and reaches Goa at the Margao station by 12.30 pm. The other train is the Mumbai Madgaon Jan Shatabdi which starts at 5.30 in the morning from Dadar station and reaches Margao by four in the evening. While coming to Goa from the South, you can take the Matsyaganda Express from Mangalore to Madgaon which takes around 6.5 hours to reach Goa.

The trains available to Goa from Mumbai include Netravati Express, Madovi Express. The trains from New Delhi include Rajdhani express, Goa express and Goa Sampark Kranti express. The trains from Eranukulam include Pune Eranukulam Poorna express, Hapa Eranukulam express, Jaipur Eranukulam Marusagar express and Eranukulam Poorna express. From Jaipur, there is the Jaipur Eranukulam Marusagar express.
