Money

Indian Rupee is the currency used in Goa as well as all over India. Most of the travelers also carry credit cards with them while traveling to Goa. To find out the current exchange rates one can find information about this from the newspaper or banks. Information regarding the exchange rates is available at all the major banks in Goa. Since many foreign tourists find that it is not permissible to take Indian currency out of India they prefer to exchange this for their respective currencies which can be done at the Exchange Bureaux in Panjim, Baga and Calangute as well as at some of the major hotels in Goa where currency exchange facility is available.

Most of the hotels, shopping malls and complexes accept Master and Visa cards. The currency can be exchanged by foreign tourists at the airport of the State Bank of India as well to avail of the best exchange rate. Most banks are located in Panaji, Margao or Vasco Da Gama. The Indian Rupee is issued in denominations of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000. Coins are found in Rs 5, Rs 2, Re 1, 50 paisa and 25 paisa.
