One of the major modes of transportation in the region of Jammu & Kashmir is by road. Though the State is a world renowned tourist destination, this region due to its hilly terrain has limited means of transport. The state tourism department has its own buses which operate in the state. The roadway is well connected to the major cities of the state as well as other states of India. Tourists visiting this state can also avail luxury coaches which operate in this region.
Taxis are yet another mode of transport in this region, which are easily available for tourists visiting this state. These taxis can be used for longer trips and excursions of this region. Similar to taxis, auto rickshaws also operate in this region. Tourist can avail these rickshaws at bus stations and hotels in the region. Mini Bus is also one of the most common and widely preferred modes of transport in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. These mini buses operate throughout the city and also the suburban areas on fixed routes.
Tourists coming to this state by road can use National Highway 1A, which connects the Jammu city to other major towns of the state and India. There are many buses which operate to most of the big towns and cities in north India from the state of Jammu and Kashmir and vice versa.
