Trains are almost certainly the one of the most absorbing modes to explore the state of Karnataka. Most of the major cities in Karnataka are well connected by railways. The complete length of the rail track in the state comprises of 3089 kilometers. Hubli is the South-Western Zone headquarters of the railway zone. Most of the cities come under this railway zone and remaining places fall under the Southern Railways. This state also comprises of meter gauge tracks which run from Shimoga to Talguppa and from Chamaranjanagar to Mysore.
The super fast train Shatabdi Express runs from Bangalore to Chennai which also connects Mysore. There is another fast train Jan Shatabdi which runs from Bangalore to Hubli.. Other inner region of the state are not well connected with major tourist destinations.
