Karnataka has some of the most interesting places that the tourists can explore. Southern cities of the state like Madikeri, Kudremukh and Agumbe are famous for eco-tourism. Karnataka also possesses 5 National Parks and 25 Wildlife Sanctuaries and some of the famous ones among them include Nagarhole National Park, Bannerghatta National Park and Bandipur National Park. The cave temples at Badami, the Hoysala temples at Halebidu and Belur, monolith of Gomateshwara, Gol Gumbaz and Jog Falls are some of the popular tourist destinations of the state.
Nagarhole National Park which is also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park and is situated around 94 kilometers from the city of Mysore. This Park is spread between districts of Mysore and Kodagu and possesses rich forest cover, waterfalls, small valleys and bustling water streams. One can find tigers, elephants and wild bisons at this park.
Bannerghatta National Park is located around 22 kilometers south of Bangalore. It is spread over 25,000 acres of land and preserves richest natural zoological and biological diversity. This park also has reserves for lions, Indian Tigers and other species of animals.
Bandipur National Park is a well known park and sanctuary as it is famous for Tiger reserves. This park is located in the district of Chamarajanagar in the south of Karnataka. This park is the home to tigers and over thousands of elephants. It also houses sloth bears, leopards, gaur and dholes.
Jog Falls, at a height of 253 meters stand to be the highest waterfalls in India. This waterfall is situated in the district if Shimoga which is 235 kilometers away from Bangalore. August to December is the best season to visit this place as the water flows out through the rocks making the gushing sound.
Gomateshwara is one of the monumental statue which stands at 60 feet on the hill at Sharavanabelagola in the district of Hassan. This statue was built in the 10th century AD and is a pilgrim destination for most of the Jains. This statue is also considered as one of the largest statues in the whole world.
