Maharashtra is a land of glorious history and rich cultural heritage. The state is abundantly endowed with nature and has many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries like the Tadoba National Park, Borivali Wildlife Park, Melghat Tiger Reserve, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, Dajipur Bison Sanctuary and Karnal and Salim Ali Bird Sanctuaries. The great forts which stand a testimony to the illustrious Maratha Empire include the Tornagad, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Vishalgad, Panhalgad and Sindhudurg. Kolhapur is a famed Maratha State with many palaces, museums, temples and forts. Other tourist interest places to be seen in Maharshtra include Ganpatipule, Bhandardara, Nasik and Nanded.
