Maharashtra is a land of glorious history and rich cultural heritage. The state is abundantly endowed with nature and has many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries like the Tadoba National Park, Borivali Wildlife Park, Melghat Tiger Reserve, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, Dajipur Bison Sanctuary and Karnal and Salim Ali Bird Sanctuaries. Maharashtra also houses beautiful rugged forts, many famous temples, world heritage sites, caves and architectural marvels. In Mumbai, the places of tourist attraction include Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves, Hanging Gardens, Victoria Terminus, Mumbadevi Temple, Siddhivinayak Temple, Bhuleshwar Temple, Haji Ali, Jama Masjid, Nehru Planetarium, Essel World, Juhu Beach etc.

Maharashtra has an extremely picturesque coastal line with places like Ratnagiri, Vengurla and Chiplun. All these places have lovely beaches, temples and forts. Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar are renowned hill stations of Maharashtra. Lonavala is another such popular getaway destination. The great forts which stand a testimony to the illustrious Maratha Empire include the Tornagad, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Vishalgad, Panhalgad and Sindhudurg. Kolhapur is a famed Maratha State with many palaces, museums, temples and forts. Other tourist interest places to be seen in Maharshtra include Ganpatipule, Bhandardara, Nasik and Nanded.
